This event is designed to be equally beneficial for Board Members, Councillors, Staff and Users and/or their Representatives.  It is an invaluable tool for any organisation that is looking toward, or in the process of, conducting a review of their service.  The event is linked to a ‘Mystery Shoppers’ exercise that SHN will conduct prior to the training day (the cost of this will be quoted separately as this will vary according to size of the organisation).  The morning will be more of an 'informing' process, enabling participants to gain an overview of what is happening Nationally and give an insight of the views of users.  The afternoon will focus on  'putting ideas into practice' or 'The Challenge' part of the day.  This will give participants the chance to examine their current perceptions and consider how the group should move forward with their task of reviewing the service that they provide to ensure that it matches user demand and local need.

Curse of the Vanishing Employees

How to Retain and Motivate Great Workers

After investing in recruiting, training, and development, you certainly don't want your employees to disappear. High turnover may not be just an upper management problem. And it usually has little to do with salary. There are five ways individual supervisors and managers can make the difference between employees staying...and vanishing.

Managers will learn the importance of:

·         Being available for problem-solving

·         Finding out what motivates each individual

·         Supporting individual growth through new challenges

·         Remaining flexible when employees need to balance work and family

·         Providing coaching and discipline to keep performance high

Pygmalion Effect, Power of Expectations

It's a fact. Limited expectations bring limited results, high expectations lead to exceptional results. The phenomenon is known as the Pygmalion Effect and it has been documented numerous times in both business and education.

In this programme, trainees get a complete overview of the Pygmalion Effect through real-life examples, dramatic vignettes and scenes from the classic movie "Pygmalion," where individuals are transformed through the positive (or negative) expectations of another. The four ways managers transmit expectations to their subordinates - climate, feedback, input and output - are also depicted.

Expanded workshop tools help participants fully grasp the importance of managing their expectations and enable them to develop comprehensive short- and long-term plans for applying the Pygmalion principles in their daily work environments.

This information, along with exercises, teaches your managers to:

·         Understand how positive/negative expectations create self-fulfilling prophecies

·         Develop the skills to positively influence co-workers and subordinates

·         Raise the expectations they have for their staff members

·         Believe more in their own ability to positively influence and lead others

As organisations move into the new millennium, they are experiencing change at an unprecedented rate. These leaner, reengineered organisations face critical challenges in facilitating the learning necessary for their employees to keep ahead.  Managers, supervisors and team leaders, whether new to their positions or with years of experience, are under pressure to come to grips with the skills needed to lead their organisations into the next century. MILLENNIUM - Leadership Capsules for the 21st Century is a powerful new resource to help them meet these challenges.

What you need to know about ... the position you're hiring for; the candidate you're interviewing; yourself. Preparing for the interview. The interview. The leader's responsibility.

·         Capsule #6 - Ending Employment Relationships. The reasons why employees leave organisations are many and complex. Some are performance related, others are not. In either case, the termination process doesn't have to be traumatic. Topics include: Why employment relationships end. Inappropriate termination. Alternatives. Termination procedures. After the relationship ends.

·         Capsule #7 - In Compliance is a quick course in the complex world of equality compliance issues. Topics include: What is equality? Affirmative action? Diversity? Three types of discrimination. What is harassment? Leadership and compliance.

·         Coaching & Performance Feedback Training Scenes is an additional resource that consists of dramatisations. Each training scenario begins by setting up a coaching or performance feedback situation culminating at a Decision Point. Here you are presented with 3 options as to how the scene should continue. These options are then played out and participants under the guidance of the trainers explore the consequences of the choices made.
