Aggression Management

An emotive subject that many find difficult to handle. Courses offer practical and structured ways of dealing with confrontation, identifying areas of risk, understanding fear and anger and what to do after an incident has occurred.

Understanding Fear and Anger

Designed to assist those who may come into contact with clients in a volatile situation.  Participants will

 *

 

 consider their safety whilst working with clients, examine their own and the clients anger, and the possible consequences.

Course AGG1            One Day

Identifying and Assessing Risks

Will help people recognise situations, which could put them at risk and ways to avoid these. Participants will

 *

 

 assess the risk in two scenarios and identify how we can often under-estimate risks.  They will be invited to draw up their own ‘action plan’ to assist them in this area within their future working practice.

Course AGG2            Two Days

Managing Confrontation Safely

 *

 

Looks at reasons leading to aggressive confrontation and ways to defuse these. Designed to promote skills in dealing with varied types of confrontation. Participants will explore the confrontation process and practice how to create space and move constructively out of the confrontation.

Course AGG3            Two Days

Developing Defusing Skills

Designed to assist people in managing a hostile environment and learning methods to defuse possible aggressive

 *

 

situations. Participants will address their own natural behaviour when trying to keep a potentially difficult situation from getting out of hand, look at methods of minimising customer frustration, consider ways of avoiding potentially dangerous situations and draw up a code of safe practice.

Course AGG4            Two Days

On Other Peoples Territory

 *

 

Looks at the problems faced by staff who visit or work in the homes of customers. Participants will consider their safety coming to and returning from work and generally on the street. They will also identify how to increase their safety when visiting the homes of clients.

Course AGG5            One Day

Surviving the Incident

Aims to ensure awareness of self-protective techniques, promote the use of support systems and address the legal and

 *

 

statutory requirements following an incident. Participants will consider what happens after an incident with the aim of becoming more aware of their own needs at such a time and prepare a personal action agenda.

Course AGG6            One Day

Assessing the 'Hot Spots' of the Job

 *

 

Participants will learn how to examine and catalogue risks, consider how they assess these risks as acceptable or unacceptable, define what can reasonably be called aggressive and violent behaviour and identify which aspects of their job require some attention in terms of reducing risks

Course AGG7            One Day

The A-B-C of Handling Aggression

An intensive course covering all of the above modules. This offers an extremely cost effective way of offering in depth training on dealing with aggression.
